I love my backyard

Josh considers Lumpini Park as his backyard and every day he heads out the back to run and play in the number of playgrounds that are set up "just for him".

Here are a few pics of Josh in his backyard.

Life moves on

Josh may be going through the adjustment of his brother Lochlan entering his world, but we are trying to keep it undisturbed and normal as possible.

Josh welcomes his brother

It can't be easy for a toddler to take on the notion of having to share his world with a new being. Josh overall has been a trooper. He hasn't gotten violent, he has embraced Lochlan with love and the knowing that this thing is here to stay.

Here are a few pics of Josh and his adjusting moments.

Cabbages and Condoms

A quick weekend away to Pattaya with the friends gives J a chave to play in the ocean and in the rain shower.

Houston, we have a problem

Houston we have a problem.  We have two different sized cots in the house for Josh. One he has had since a baby and is a traditional high-off-the-ground standard baby type crib.  The other, low to the ground and slightly smaller.  Perfect for our guests who are coming over and need a cot as well.  Here is where the problem comes in.

This weekend, Josh learned how to master the art of climbing out of the big cot.  We switched them out so when he crashes to the floor he doesn't crack his head but none the less, he is climbing out with a gusto.

Here are a couple of snaps from Auntie Chinatsu who caught it on video.

What's this soccer crap?

Every Sunday we take Josh to Kiddy Kicks soccer. But he's really not that into it. He's supposed to run across a fake field and pick up fake bowls of ice cream and return them to the coach's bag. The whole time you can just tell Josh is saying to himself, "this chasing a ball shit is for dogs, now the whistle that guy is blowing is a different thing all together.  How do I get one of those?"

Choice

A picture is worth a thousand words.

No pictures please

We are trying to make headway with the potty training and J has been showing interest which is important. He watches me stand at the urinal and wonders what's happening, he watches me on the pot and knows to hold his nose. But today he made serious progress. Now don't go and tell the neighbors, but this afternoon, he was running across the pool deck, back and forth, back and forth totally naked as he always does. Periodically stopping, spreading his legs and taking a wee. What we didn't expect twice was a slight squat and then to see poo start to oozing from his bum. Now to give the little guy credit, he was a bit bunged up, not having shat for two days. But right there, for no one but mummy and me to see, he squatted and pushed one out.

I Immediately grab him, confused as to where to go, ran him over to the wall to hang his bum over the side but thought he might shit on the neighbors balcony directly below. So I tried to stick his ass in a potted plant but realized he didn't fit through the branches. Finally the misses says, take him to the bathroom and sit him on the pot. Duh! So I run him to the bathroom, shit still poking out like a turtle's head, stick his bare butt on the pot and he drops his first turd burger in the bowl.

Little did I know later he would actually lay a full log alongside the pool and we would again be heading to the pot with the remaining turtle poo sticking out.

Overall a very successful potty training day for the Josh-man.

We're getting there mate.

A rainy day in Bangkok, think I'll go for a walk.

What do you do at the age of 19 mos and you have a rainy day?  Why not throw your pants off and your gum-boots on, grab your new tricycle and head out for an icy pop and a bit of fresh coconut. Ahh, the day is complete!

Josh's Trip down under

Once again we headed down to Sydney for a little break from the heat and to have a little Mars and Pa time for the J-man.  Here are a few pics and vids of his time down under.

Josh flies his first plane

Don't be confused, Josh is not riding on his first plane, he has about 150,000 miles under his belt at  the ripe old age of 18 mos. This is his newest toy from Mars and Pa. His very own remote control airplane.

Who dat?

One of Josh's favorite places to hang is the Siam Ocean World at Siam Paragon. He knows it inside and out. You've seen pics of the big cuddly manta ray walking about and Josh giving him a hug. Well, now he is all about the divers. He could watch them all day.

He also decided to join a random school group today as they made their way through. No worries or fears at all.

First important word

Naturally Josh's first words were Mama and Dada. But what would his third word be?  Something significant?  Something simple?  How about Scissors!  Yes, Scissors.  Of course this was said with a mouth full of cookies.

To listen.

First time to the dentist

We took Josh for the first time to the dentist, not because he needed it but we want him to get used to it. Other than checking it all out and heading straight to the computer, did was a champ. The dentist said he had great teeth thus far with good spacing.

Way to go Joshy.

At 18 months

So what was Josh like as a toddler?  When you go to the mall or the Ocean World Aquarium, most kids would keep a watchful eye on their parents. You know, running like a kid runs but every now and again, looking back. Not Josh. He could care less where his parents are.  In fact, he runs up to complete strangers, holds his hands up begging to be lifted, in areas where we are no where to be seen yet, and offers a cuddle to anyone.  The bewildered victim, looks around for a parental approval or permission, hoping he might will not be accused of child theft, while a little blonde kid gives everyone a smile as big as can be.

What else you ask?  Most toddlers, at least his crowd, are scared to death of the big fuzzy characters walking around theme parks greeting the guests. Again, not Josh. He loves them.  In fact, won't leave them alone even when they have moved on to other kids. The one who ends up tormented seems to be the stuffed character, not Josh.

What's so funny about no?

Update:

How do you teach a child the meaning of the word NO?

Don't put Mr. Bunny, your hands or anything else in the house in the toilet, it's not funny.

But when you get a cheeky grin and a finger wag from the kid while he says Na, Na, Na, Na, you just wonder what you will find next... The TV remote or your iPhone perhaps?  Only time will tell but suggestions from the field are welcome.

Joshy's first hospital visit

Joshy came down with a sever chest virus and cold that morphed into a mild pneumonia while I was in the US.  Mummy was so tired trying to take care of the J man and Bai Yaw was a tremendous help through it all. P

And once he was feeling better the personality just came back.
